Imaging & Diagnostic Evaluation

1. Radiographs

  • Views:

    • Anteroposterior (AP) view of the shoulder.

    • Scapular Y-view.

    • Axillary view (to assess dislocation or head orientation).

  • Findings:

    • Fracture line, displacement, angulation, comminution, tuberosity involvement, and humeral head position.

2. Computed Tomography (CT)

  • Useful for complex, comminuted, or intra-articular fractures; helps in surgical planning.

3. MRI

  • Assesses rotator cuff tears or vascular compromise in the humeral head (rarely needed acutely).
