Topic 1: Application Software

These are specifically user coded programs for carrying out particular tasks. These software can easily be changed to meet the individual needs.  These programs are written in different programming languages such as python, BASIC or C or by using database packages like Oracle.

General Purpose Packages:  These packages are developed to suit the needs of different fields. This software is normally sold or found off the shelf.

 These packages are categorized as : 

a)     Data Analysis e.g SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science), MSTAT, MICROSTAT, GENSTAT, SAS etc.     

ii) Word Processing e.g WORD PERFECT, iWork pages, WORDSTAR, Lotus Word Pro, MS-Word, CHIRATOR,  NORTON EDITOR etc.   

iii) Spread Sheet e.g LOTUS, Qpro, VP-PLANNER, SYMPHONY, MS-Excel  etc.                                                        

iv) Graphics e.g   LOTUS, STORY-BOARD, POWER-POINT etc.       

v) Databases e.g dBASE, FOX-BASE, ADABAS, FOX-PRO, MySQL,ORACLE, MS-Access  etc
